Moonwish

Moonwish Studios — From Zero to 8 Clients

Co-founded with Bobby in 2022 as a legally formed web development studio based in Orange County. Bobby handled sales, we coded projects together. Shipped 8 production websites for local businesses and generated $5k+ in revenue over 8 months.

Role: Co-founder & Web Developer (Oct 2022 – June 2023) Stack: React, TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Supabase, Figma, Vercel, Git

What I Did

  • Built modern, mobile-responsive websites for OC businesses end to end — design through deployment
  • Led the implementation of a Figma design system that cut design cycles to 3–4 days and kept UI consistent across projects and between collaborators
  • Managed deployment, version control, and collaboration through Vercel, Git, and GitHub
  • Ran client relationships — regular meetings, project planning, contracts, invoicing, payments, and check-ins
  • Scoped projects, set timelines, and handled scope changes when clients shifted direction mid-project
  • Still supporting these clients today — when something breaks or needs updating, they reach out and I fix it

What I Learned

  • Owning outcomes, not tasks. No manager to escalate to — if a client was unhappy or a deadline was tight, it was on me to fix it.
  • Speed compounds. The design system, the reusable stack, the templated contracts — every process investment paid off across all 8 projects.
  • Clients don't know what they want. Learning to translate vague requests into concrete deliverables was harder than the code itself.
  • Business is not just building. Contracts, invoicing, scope management, and saying no to feature creep — this is where most freelancers fail.

What I Took Away

Moonwish taught me how to own outcomes, not just tasks. When you're the founder, there's no one to escalate to — you either solve the problem or lose the client. That mindset carried directly into my work at Bluon, where I now own a product end to end with the same sense of accountability.

It also taught me that speed compounds. The design system, the reusable stack, the templated contracts — every investment in process paid off across all 8 projects. I think about this constantly when building developer tooling and infrastructure now.
